This course provides a brief intensive introduction to Management Information Systems for MBA and MHA students. The subject matter includes information systems fundamentals necessary to operate effectively in a computerized business environment, and an overview of the components, operations, and role of information systems in business environments. Major concepts and recent developments in computer hardware, software, telecommunications, and database management technologies are presented, and the strategic, global, and ethical dimensions of information systems are discussed. Prerequisite: required online class

This course explores the ways in which major systems develop concepts, tools, and methods that help managers perform their roles more effectively and efficiently. Both technical and conceptual tools for designing and implementing information systems will be discussed. Students will also apply theories and concepts to industry-oriented application problems. The role of the manager in systems development will also be emphasized. Prerequisite: MIS 155, MIS 260 or MIS 512

This course integrates the fundamentals of security program management. Students will learn to how to design, deploy, and manage security controls and policies to safeguard against contemporary cyber threats and regulatory requirements. The course combines lectures and the use of cybersecurity tools for designing effective security programs. The security management addresses the application of industry-standard frameworks to assess information technology risk qualitatively and quantitatively. The course also explores the continuity of operations, guiding students on protecting operations from cyber disruptions and preparing organizations to sustain operations post-cyber incidents. Prerequisites: MIS 512 and MIS 516.
| MIS 565 Cybersecurity Risk Management | 3 SH |
This course introduces the student to the risk management framework and industry-accepted methods for performing risk assessment and risk mitigation. The student will learn how to create an inventory of all information assets, assign values to those assets, and explore all vulnerabilities that the assets face and the loss in value if a threat is realized. The course also covers how to assess an organization’s risk appetite which affects the degree to which management believes it needs to reduce the level risk by implementing managerial, technical, and policy controls. Prerequisites: MIS 512 and MIS 516.

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the technical and management aspects of data communications and networking. This course will cover network models, network technologies, network security, network design, and network management. In addition, the emerging trends in the networking field will be discussed.
MIS 598 Faculty-Developed Study
This experimental course is offered by the MIS Department as a means of determining its value to the total department program or in response to a particular request from a group of students.
MIS 599 Student-Developed Study
This vehicle is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to develop his/her own learning experience. A student will design a project and secure a faculty sponsor. This vehicle may be utilized more than once. Prerequisite: written permission of faculty sponsor and department. Registration through the Office of Graduate Admissions is required.
