Shaw<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Overview and Mission<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The mission of the Sixth Year TESOL program is to prepare educators to work collaboratively in varied settings and cultural contexts to assist English language learners. The program prepares educators to work collaboratively with colleagues and families in culturally diverse populations in schools and communities to impact student learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals, Objectives, and Learning Outcomes of the\u00a0Sixth Year TESOL\u00a0Program<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The goals, objectives and learning outcomes of WCSU\u2019s Sixth Year TESOL Program are varied and are critical to facilitate the development of educators to work with English language learners. The program is designed to prepare educators to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A.\u00a0Graduates of the program will be demonstrate and apply knowledge of content;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.\u00a0Synthesize and apply central concepts, structures of the discipline, and tools of inquiry of the content areas; organize this knowledge, integrate cross-disciplinary skills, and develop meaningful learning progressions for English language learners as indicated by the design of learning segments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>B.\u00a0Graduates of the program will demonstrate the ability to plan, develop, and adjust services that meet the needs of English language learners;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.\u00a0Understand the role of culture and linguistics in second language acquisition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2.\u00a0Accurately assess and analyze student learning, reflecting on adjustments needed for both\u00a0instruction and assessment as indicated by the impact on student learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>C. Graduates of the program will demonstrate the ability to use relevant pedagogical skills and educational psychology knowledge in the planning, development, delivery and assessment of professional services in support of relevant educational goals;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Use foundational knowledge to design and\/or implement an integrated, comprehensive, and balanced curriculum as indicated by practicum performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>D. Graduates of the program will demonstrate professional dispositions that are consistent with the conceptual framework and in accord with professional, state, and institutional standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1. Demonstrate expertise in working collaboratively with colleagues to design instruction for English language learners as indicated by practicum performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Admission Requirements<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Applicants who wish to be admitted to the program must submit the following materials to the Office of Graduate Admissions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Application for admission to the Office of Graduate Admissions and a $50 application fee: Online application &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/graduate\/application\/\">https:\/\/www.wcsu.edu\/graduate\/application\/<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>One official transcript mailed (not hand-delivered) to the Office of Graduate Admissions from each college or university previously attended, including all earned grades and degree. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Minimum graduate cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>A copy of a valid teaching certificate in elementary and\/or secondary education<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Evidence of an earned\u00a0undergraduate and master&#8217;s degree from an accredited institution of higher education<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Program Entry Interviews and Academic Planning<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each candidate must meet with the graduate coordinator to discuss and plan the academic program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>This program is a certificate program and is not eligible for financial aid.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>LiveText License Requirement<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>All candidates who enter degree or certificate programs in Education and Educational Psychology at Western Connecticut State University are required to purchase a\u00a0LiveText license before or during the first week of class.\u00a0LiveText is part of Western&#8217;s assessment system and essential for continuous accreditation.
