The study of human physiology and pathophysiology with application to advanced nursing interventions and evaluation of outcomes by the advanced practice nurse. This course builds upon a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology, emphasizing alterations in cellular structure and function, and alterations in biochemical processes, and the integration of the effects of disease on body systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThis course provides foundation for understanding psychopathology of psychiatric disorders or <\/span>mental health problems from various perspectives as it applies to nursing assessment, diagnosis, <\/span>interventions, and evaluation of outcomes. Theoretical base of psychopathology will be explored <\/span>according to the current diagnostic criteria. This course focuses on pharmacotherapeutic principles, mechanisms of action, and selection of pharmaceutical agents in advanced clinical nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on drug therapy and the identification and avoidance of adverse drug reactions and interactions. NUR 571 Psychopharmacology 3 SH<\/span><\/strong>
\nThis course focuses on psychopharmacology principles, mechanism of action and selection of <\/span>pharmaceutical agents in treatment of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. Emphasis <\/span>is on neurobiology, the biologic actions of psychotropic drugs and identifying how medications <\/span>can induce brain chemistry, mood, and behavior. Content and application of skills in advanced nursing practice necessary to complete a comprehensive client history and perform a physical and psychological assessment of signs and symptoms, pharmacological and pathophysiologic changes, and psychosocial variations in the young adult- gerontological client. \u00a0Prerequisites<\/i>: NUR 515 or permission of the Nursing Department chair. Basic physical assessment course within the past 5 years or successful performance on a physical assessment examination with a grade of 85% or better.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 576 The Adult \u2013 Gerontology Acute Nurse Practitioners Management of the Acutely Ill Complex Populations\u00a0 \u00a05 S.H.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This clinical seminar and practicum focus on the diagnosis, treatment and acute management of complex and critically ill younger adults, and adult-gerontology medical conditions with life threatening and\/or rapidly changing physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Emphasis is on the role of the advanced acute nurse practitioner role in evaluating, diagnosing, and implementing treatment plans in complex medical or surgical management. Course Description: This clinical course focuses on treatment and outcome management of acutely ill adult-gerontology patients with multisystem derangements of chronic health conditions. Emphasis is placed on specialty practices and generalist services that deal with urgent and emergent complex acute chronic medical conditions. Learners will be guided through the research process as they develop their dissertation proposals.\u00a0 By the end of the course, students will produce the first draft of the proposal for the course faculty and dissertation adviser.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 814 Dissertation Advisement II<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Learners will be guided through the process as they await Institutional Research Board approval and will\u00a0begin the data collection phase.\u00a0 In this seminar approach, learners will work individually with their dissertation adviser.<\/span><\/p>\n

Learners will continue to work with their dissertation advisers as they complete the data-collection phase and begin to analyze their data.<\/span><\/p>\n

Learners will continue to work with their dissertation advisers to complete writing the dissertation and conducting the dissertation defense.<\/span><\/p>\n

This course will investigate and analyze the scientific foundations of nursing knowledge.\u00a0 Students will use knowledge from other sciences and disciplines to create a context to expand the scientific underpinnings of nursing.\u00a0 Students will explore the nature of theory and theory development from multiple scientific and psychosocial disciplines including middle range theory.\u00a0 Students will also explore concept analysis and to examine the principles and laws that govern the human experience and well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n

This course will prepare the student in the synthesizing of knowledge from physiological, psychological, sociological, cultural, ethnical and financial perspectives for care of the chronically ill and vulnerable patient.\u00a0 Complex health, social, ethical and financial problems will be managed for this chronic and vulnerable patient population.\u00a0 Advanced nursing practice will be completed with supervised clinical practice. <\/span><\/p>\n

This course will explore health care policy and the associating role and actions that health care policy\u2019s effects health care organizations, health care governance, global and societal practice as well as individual practice.\u00a0 Overview of health care policy and planning at a local, state and federal level will be examined in consideration to vulnerable populations and community health. Legislative structure and regulatory organizations and the interrelationship with health care organizations and practice will be examined.\u00a0\u00a0 The APN role will be examined with regards to the ethical and legal considerations regarding practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 827\u00a0 Leadership in Health Care Organizations\u00a0 3 SH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The various leadership roles in academic and health care nursing are examined. Classic and contemporary leadership and management theories and research in academic and health care administration are used as a basis to discuss the leadership challenges and opportunities inherent in faculty and health care leadership and in administrative roles.\u00a0 Traditional and emerging roles and responsibilities in the various leadership positions will be explored in depth.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 828\u00a0 Qualitative Research\u00a0 3 SH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This course will examine an in-depth analysis of the methodologies congruent with selected qualitative research traditions. Strategies for selecting appropriate research questions, sampling, data collection and data analysis plans from the viewpoint of a naturalistic paradigm are highlighted.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 829\u00a0 Quality, Risk Management and Use of Biostatistics\u00a0 3 SH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This course will explore quality analysis methods for identification and the use of data elements in exploring the delivery of patient care.\u00a0 Concepts of risk management and organizational mitigation will be assessed.\u00a0 This information will be used to assist in the delivery of quality care as well as understanding and identifying potential risk associated with organizations.\u00a0 Students will apply bio statistical information in evaluating health care quality, risk and evidence based practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 830\u00a0 Quantitative Research\u00a0 3 SH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This course will examine an in-depth analysis of inferential statistics.\u00a0 Students will learn key concepts in inferential statistic methodology, commonly used statistical test to be used in nursing and health care research.\u00a0 Students will also develop a basic understanding of tools and statistical software packages that can be used in health care research.<\/span><\/p>\n

NUR 831\u00a0 Project Seminar\u00a0 6 SH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the guidance of faculty DNP students will complete development of the DNP Project with the acquired theoretical knowledge and skills gained. \u00a0Focus will be in guiding student\u2019s aspects of project design, implementation and evaluation. Students will then evaluate methods for project dissemination to further build upon evidence based knowledge of health care.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
