Consistent with the school and University mission, the department is committed to providing finance students with the theoretical background, critical thinking and practical skills necessary for pursuing a career in financial investments and markets or financial management.<\/p>\n<p>The department prepares its students with the methods of financial planning, financial analysis and control, and for management of complex, changing forms of financial risk.<\/p>\n<p>The finance department is also committed to providing all business students with the statistical knowledge and computer expertise necessary to make data-based decisions across all functional areas of business. Graduates of this option can pursue careers as investment analysts, securities traders, investment bankers, and in any of a host of careers that require analytical ability and the commitment to solving unique and challenging financial problems.<\/p>\n<p>FIN 316 Quantitative Methods in Finance <em>or<\/em> FIN 317 Fixed Income Securities<br \/>\nFIN 486 Financial Engineering<br \/>\nFIN\/ECO 488 Multinational Financial Issues<\/p>\n<p class=\"inlineheader\">Financial Management Option<\/p>\n<p>Students who choose the financial management option will have the opportunity to acquire skills in the areas of financial planning, analysis, and control. Graduates of this\u00a0option are employed as bankers, financial analysts, financial planners, and a number of careers that require the ability to synthesize a broad range of financial, accounting, and economic variables in making sound financial decisions.<\/p>\n<p>ACC 301 Intermediate Financial Accounting I<br \/>\nACC 302 Intermediate Financial Accounting II<br \/>\nACC 303 Intermediate Financial Accounting III <em>or<\/em> ACC 361 Cost Accounting or ACC 403 Federal Taxation<br \/>\nACC 407 Consolidation, Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Restrictions <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For a complete list of prerequisites, corequisites and other restrictions for all courses, please consult the Course Description section of this catalog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Learning Outcomes<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of\u00a0the Finance Department should be\u00a0able\u00a0to :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate\u00a0knowledge\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0portfolio\u00a0management, security valuations, financial\u00a0statement analysis, and\u00a0risk-return\u00a0analysis.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate\u00a0 knowledge\u00a0of financial\u00a0planning, long &amp; short\u00a0term financing , and the functions of financial\u00a0management.<\/li>\n<li>Apply\u00a0basic\u00a0analytical\u00a0and\u00a0quantitative\u00a0techniques\u00a0to\u00a0solve\u00a0complex\u00a0problems and\u00a0make\u00a0sound financial\u00a0decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Utilize\u00a0computer based\u00a0analytic methods<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate\u00a0knowledge\u00a0of domestic and\u00a0international markets &amp; institutions<\/li>\n<li>Effectively\u00a0communicate\u00a0financial\u00a0problems\u00a0and\u00a0solutions\u00a0orally and\u00a0in writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"subTitle\">Minor in Finance<\/p>\n<p>Admission to the minor requires completion of at least 45 semester hours with a GPA of 2.3.\u00a0 Successful completion of the minor requires the student to take 18 semester hours and to maintain a 2.3 GPA in all finance courses.\u00a0 There are two\u00a0options in the Finance minor:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Track 1: Investments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This minor requires the completion of the following courses:<\/p>\n<p>FIN 310 Principles of Finance<br \/>\nFIN 320 Financial Management<br \/>\nFIN 330 Financial Decision Models<br \/>\nFIN 340 Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management<\/p>\n<p><em>And a choice of two of the following:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>FIN 316 Quantitative Methods of Finance<br \/>\nFIN 317 Fixed Income Securities<br \/>\nFIN\/ECO 360 Money, Banking and Capital Markets<br \/>\nFIN 370 Financial Institutions<br \/>\nFIN 486 Financial Engineering<br \/>\nFIN\/ECO 488 Multinational Financial Issues<\/p>\n<p><strong>Track 2: Financial Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This minor requires the completion of the following courses:<\/p>\n<p>FIN 310 Principles of Finance<br \/>\nFIN 320 Financial Management<br \/>\nFIN 330 Financial Decision Models<br \/>\nFIN 340 Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management<\/p>\n<p><em>And a choice of two of the following:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>ACC 301 Intermediate Financial Accounting I<br \/>\nACC 302 Intermediate Financial Accounting II<br \/>\nACC 361 Cost Accounting<\/p>\n<p>The department reserves the right to approve alternative requirements on a case\u2013by\u2013case basis after advisement from a finance faculty member and approval by the department.
