The course content includes topics such as: gender, gender roles, and sexuality and power. The course will examine women\u2019s lives through the lens of history, race, class, ethnicity and sexuality. The course may also address: women and work, welfare, family issues, AIDS, violence, reproductive rights, civil rights, communication, health, literature, militarization and welfare. The theoretical and constitutional basis for each branch is addressed, with particular emphasis on the evolution of the relationship between the branches over time. The class explores the presidency, the bureaucracy, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the important ways each influences the other. Particular focus is paid to the legislative process and other interactions between the executive and legislative branches. Prerequisite: PS 102 or instructor permission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WS\/PHI 260 Philosophy of Women and Gender 3SH<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>See PHI\/WS 260 Competency: Critical Thinking and Writing Intensive Tier 2.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>WS\/JLA 301 Women and Criminal Justice 3SH<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>See JLA\/WS 301<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>WS\/HIS 319 Women in Medieval and Early Modern Europe <\/strong><strong>3SH <\/strong><br \/>\nThis class will focus on the history of women during the medieval and the early modern period, from roughly the 9th until the 16th centuries. Discussion begins with understanding medieval and early modern categories of women in European culture: mystics, queens, witches, authors, nuns, mothers, etc. Then the course examines the lives of specific women who may or may not conform to the expectations of these categories of women. Course discussion also focuses on the origins and persistence of gender stereotyping throughout these periods and debate over their continued relevance. <em>Prerequisite:<\/em> Junior standing or written permission of the instructor.
